This Privacy Policy explains how Main Character LLC ("Main Character," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use Mathy at mathy.game, in the iPhone app, in the iPad app, or through related support channels (the "Service"). Main Character LLC is based in Massachusetts.
Quick read
- Mathy is account-free and local-first.
- Your Practice answers, review history, progress, settings, and private notes stay on your device or in your browser profile unless you deliberately export or share them.
- Mathy does not use advertising, cross-site tracking, cloud backup, or account synchronization. Optional anonymous product analytics stays off unless you turn it on.
- We do not sell personal information.
- Mathy is an educational practice tool. It is not a school, tutoring service, or substitute for instruction from a qualified teacher.
Information Mathy stores locally
Mathy stores the information needed to provide the local product. Depending on the features you use, this may include:
- your selected packs, topics, targets, appearance, motion, and accessibility preferences.
- Practice answers, grading results, review history, correction history, timing, scheduler state, and item-level learning history.
- progress information such as XP, Level, streaks, activity, Automaticity, awards, and session summaries.
- local Challenge definitions, attempts, scores, personal bests, and readiness information.
- private dogfood observations, content reports, and notes that you choose to save.
- a local installation and profile identifier used to keep your data associated with the correct local profile.
- bounded Practice launch reliability details such as loading times, completion or failure state, app version, platform, and a private reference code.
- recovery archives that you create, import, or save.
On iPhone and iPad, this information is stored in Mathy's local app storage. On the web, it is stored in the browser profile and origin where you used Mathy.
Optional product analytics
Settings offers an optional Share anonymous usage control. It is off until you turn it on. If you turn it on, Mathy sends a random installation identifier, app version, platform, and only these events and properties to PostHog in the United States:
- an app session started.
- Practice started or completed, including whether the mode was Daily, Timed, or Endless.
- Keep Going was selected.
- a Challenge started or completed.
- once per local day, the current broad learning state for selected topics. This includes whether progress is Building, Ready, Needs attention, protected, or lapsed, whether Practice is recommended now, soon, or not that day, and broad count ranges for Automatic, Remembered, Building, recommended review, relearning, and timing not yet assessed.
- when Practice is completed, broad ranges for the number of first answers and first-answer accuracy, the kind and broad count range of Automaticity progress, and the resulting readiness, continuity, recommended review, and relearning state.
Mathy disables PostHog person profiles and location processing. It does not send your IP address as an event property. Network providers may temporarily process an IP address to deliver the request. Mathy does not use product analytics for advertising, cross-site tracking, or identifying you.
Product analytics does not include raw answers, exact scores, exact response times, topics, problem or target identifiers, item-level weaknesses, item-level learning history, Challenge attempt details, private notes, free-form text, recovery archives, or account information. Aggregate counts and percentages are sent only as broad ranges. Mathy does not use autocapture, session replay, surveys, feature flags, or automatic error reporting.
You can turn sharing off at any time in Settings. This stops new collection, aborts pending analytics requests, and discards the local analytics identifier. We configure analytics events for 12-month retention. Public analytics will remain disabled until provider-side deletion enforcement is confirmed. Because the identifier is not tied to an account or contact information, we generally cannot locate prior anonymous events as belonging to you.
Information Mathy does not automatically send
The current account-free product does not automatically send your Practice answers, item-level weaknesses, review history, Challenge attempts, private notes, or recovery archives to Main Character LLC.
Mathy does not currently include:
- user accounts or cloud synchronization.
- behavioral advertising.
- third-party advertising SDKs.
- public profiles or public learning history.
- remote AI processing.
- payment or subscription processing.
We will update this policy and provide any required notice or consent before activating a feature that materially changes these practices.
Information you choose to share
Recovery archives and files
When you export a recovery archive, Mathy creates a file and opens the operating system's save or share controls. You choose where the file goes. The recipient, storage provider, or application you select has its own privacy practices. Mathy does not upload a recovery archive automatically.
When you import an archive, Mathy reads the file you selected so it can validate and restore local data. The current product does not send that archive to us.
Support and diagnostics
If you contact support, we receive the message, contact information, attachments, and other information you choose to send. Mathy's diagnostic tool creates details that you can inspect before sharing. It may include the latest sanitized app error and recent Practice launch loading times, outcome, build details, error class, and an opaque fingerprint. It excludes raw answers, Practice history, and item-level weakness data. It also excludes item identities, raw stack frames, source paths, the error message, free-form content, and route parameters. Mathy does not transmit app errors or reliability details automatically.
We use support correspondence to respond, investigate problems, protect the Service, and improve Mathy. Support records may be retained as long as reasonably needed for those purposes or to meet legal obligations.
Website and delivery information
When you visit mathy.game, hosting and network providers may process standard request information such as an IP address, browser or device type, requested page, and request time to deliver and secure the site. Mathy does not use this delivery information for advertising or cross-site tracking. Optional product analytics is limited to the events described above.
Mathy does not track your activity over time across other companies' websites or services, and we do not allow other parties to do that through Mathy. Because Mathy does not perform cross-site tracking, browser "Do Not Track" signals do not change how the Service behaves.
The App Store, operating system, browser, internet provider, email provider, and any application or storage destination you choose may process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
How we use information
We use information we receive to:
- provide and maintain Mathy.
- respond to support and content reports.
- investigate reliability, safety, security, and legal issues.
- improve product quality without using raw learning history for external analytics.
- comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for behavioral advertising.
We share information only as needed to provide the Service, follow your directions, protect Mathy and its users, comply with law, or complete a business transfer. Service providers may process limited information for us. These providers include Vercel for website and support-form delivery, Resend for support email, and PostHog for the optional analytics described above. They may use the information only to provide their services to us or as otherwise permitted by law.
Retention and deletion
Local Mathy data remains on the device or browser profile until you clear it, replace it through an import, uninstall the app, or clear the relevant browser data. Removing an app or clearing browser data may permanently delete local progress if you have not saved a recovery archive.
Practice launch reliability history is separate from learning data and recovery archives. It keeps at most fifty records, including only the ten most recent normal successful launches. Records older than fourteen days are removed the next time Mathy reads or writes this history. Mathy Dev also provides a control to clear it.
Exported files remain wherever you chose to save or send them. You are responsible for deleting copies held by you or a third-party destination.
Support messages and related records may remain in our email or support systems for as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, maintain security, resolve disputes, or comply with law.
Optional anonymous analytics events are configured for 12-month retention. Public analytics will remain disabled until provider-side deletion enforcement is confirmed.
Because the current product has no account or cloud learning-data store, there is no remote Mathy account to delete. You can clear local progress from Mathy's Progress & Backup settings. You can also uninstall the app or clear site data in your browser.
Your choices
You can:
- use Mathy without creating an account.
- keep the app offline after installation when using local Practice and Challenge features.
- choose whether to export, import, save, or share an archive.
- inspect a diagnostic before sharing it.
- choose whether to share anonymous product usage, and turn sharing off at any time.
- clear local progress through Mathy's settings.
- contact us through the contact page with a privacy question.
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights concerning personal information that you deliberately send to us. We may need to verify a request before acting on it.
Security
We design Mathy to minimize remote data collection and keep learning history local by default. We also use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards for information that you choose to send us. No storage system, device, browser, email service, or transmission method is completely secure.
Children
Mathy is a general-audience Education app and is not offered in the App Store's Kids Category. It is designed for learners at many levels and is not directed specifically to children under 13. Children may use the account-free local features with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian.
A child under 13 may use the local learning features, but must not turn on anonymous usage sharing, contact support, send a diagnostic, or share a recovery archive. A parent or legal guardian may contact us on the child's behalf and should avoid sending unnecessary personal information about the child. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the local learning product. If you believe a child sent personal information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps, including deletion where appropriate.
People who have not reached the age of legal majority where they live should use Mathy with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian.
Other services
Mathy may link to or use platform features provided by Apple, a browser, an email provider, a hosting provider, or a file destination you select. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Mathy changes. If a change is material, we will provide notice through the Service or on mathy.game where appropriate. The date at the top shows when this policy was last updated.
